Following from research into the Sheffield Hand, Elumotion Ltd are developing several techniques to merge mechanical components with electronic instrumentation.
From the projects we’ve worked on we have found that it is necessary to integrate electronic and mechanical components in order to achieve the functionality necessary in the space given.

One of the detail images shows a two degree of freedom finger joint including miniature Hall Effect sensors for absolute position sensing, whilst the picture below shows a finger-tip incorporating a cantilever strain gauge embedded in silicone designed for force measurement.

Additionally, we find we need to custom design circuit boards and flexi prints to manage the wiring effectively in our designs, and the pictures below signal conditioning modules that allow the sensor readings to be ‘read’ by computer interfaces.
